Yamaha FX-1 active, passive xover or blend?

I bought a minidsp DDRC-88BM about a year ago with the idea of using it as an active crossover with room correction and have several amps to roll. but can't bring myself to do it mostly out of fear of blowing up one of the drivers which are just to rare to find replacements. my plan was to use an accuphase a46 for the low and one of the first watts (f8,sit3) or pass labs xa25 for mids & highs or maybe one of my other amps, first tube rolling now amp rolling lol. I like a lot of things about the accuphase but love other aspects of the other amps as well, but I seem to be accumulating way to many amps and really need to start deciding which amps I'll be parting with. anyways is there a way to protect the tweeter and midrange from damage or should I active the woofer and build a crossover for the mids and highs. one of the crossovers has a leaking cap so i'll need to do something. I feel like I'm a little over my head with this project and would greatly like some feedback on what I can and/or should do.

How, exactly, might a driver be blown up? Feeding it the wrong frequencies? Turn-on/turn-off thumps from the amps? Amp going into oscillation? Just what is it you're afraid of?

those and loose connection or my dumbass not turning it off or thought it was off before I did something, amp feeding to many watts. maybe an amp going into protection of failing to before taking something else with it. I'm really not sure and I guess that's where my fear stems from.
