A local person is selling the following items.

Yamaha M-60 amplifier - Claims one channel is "weak"
Yamaha C-60 preamp - No issues mentioned
Nakamichi BX300 Cassette - "may need adjustments", hasn't been used in some time.

Also included is an Onkyo Integra Tuner and a small steel audio rack.
He wants $300 for everything.

I'm really only interested in the Amp, but it's a package deal. I'm not real handy with this repairing this kind of stuff so I'm not sure how much it would cost to fix. Worth the gamble?

Go buy It. The amps are pretty straight forward to repair and when they go they go.but I would buy that package.

The M60 and the C60 as a pair for $300 are a buy but that M- series amps all have the infamous glue problem that all has to be cleaned off the PCB board and you likely have a number of components that will need to be replaced. You can get lots of help on the Yamaha forum or just by searching for the amp model. But if you are not willing or not comfortable openings both units up and doing some work would suggest to look for a later MX model as they require less restoration.

Do you think the Amp would be worthy of spending a couple hundred dollars (just a wild guess) for a repair/refurb?

However, the amp has tons of power and sounds great when operating as it should. I had an M-40 and it was awesome as a test system! It drives very hard to drive speakers effortlessly! Any of the M series Yamaha amps are well worth restoring and keeping. If you have or ever want to get large speakers that need need a 4 ohm amp, this would be one of my choices to hear the speakers as they really should sound.

FWIW, I bought one of my M-80s from a guy who had it in the shop a number of times to fix one channel cutting out/intermittent weak. It's not a wonder they never found the problem with the amp.....because the problem was a cracked solder joint on the corresponding C-80 output jack.

Yes. Working amp alone is worth around 300.Depending on the cosmetics maybe more.

If the amp and preamp are fully functional now it likely would cost less than a couple of hundred to "refresh" some parts that are old. If you are not willing to do the updates yourself then you need to start looking for someone local qualified to perform the refurb for you. Start searching for a local tech before you buy. Shipping a unit is high risk and expensive.

Thank you all for the comments.

There is a shop within 90 minutes that specializes in vintage audio refurbishment. I'm going to see if they can give me an idea on how much a refurb job will cost.

I spoke with the seller who lives very close to me, and the weak channel still has output. He used to adjust the L/R controls and make it usable awhile back. I'm not sure what to do with the Nakamichi BX-300. I had one back in the late 80's myself, and it was a fabulous deck. I can't see myself using cassettes ever again, but I'll probably have it checked out too *sigh*

My wife is going to kill me. I already have so much stuff :) I just spent $600 last week on a pair of Triangle Celius 202 speakers. Such an addict I am.
