Yamaha M-80 issue RCA connectors loose

I've used this amp very lightly - only maybe 10-15 hours so far which is a shame...

The issue is the RCA connectors... they wiggle around - that cannot be good.

:tears:

I very recently had to unplug the RCA cables to move it so that's how I noticed it.

That's the first time the cables were unplugged since I've had it and the only reason I hadn't noticed until now.

Is this an easy fix or?

Cheaper RCA cables used, not rip the connector off turbines.

Was going to get a pair of evil rip off connector plugs from monoprice.com soon...

Anyone else have this issue? Fix?

On a side note...anyone else with these M series amps have re-glued speaker terminals(I see lots of dried glue, perhaps on 5 or 6 of them IIRC).

My only guess is as sometime in it's life it was dropped, would explain the re-glued terminals(which all work) and the loose RCA connectors.

I'll snap pics soon. Curious if it's a typical thing with these - that they're that fragile, or if this one just had a traumatic experience....

The RCA input connectors are mounted on a separate board and that is screwed to the back panel. The connectors will wiggle, but they should not be loose. Pull the amp cover and see what happens when you plug/unplug the connectors.

The speaker terminals are a notorious weak spot, it doesn't take much to break them. Normal good packing for transport is not enough to keep them from breaking. Nothing should touch these during shipping and the area around them should be built up with closed cell foam or else. See my attached pics, this one WAS packed well but it didn't matter.

Done correctly, the rebuilt and glued speaker terminals should not be a problem.

The input RCAs on all four of my Yamaha amps (2x M-80, 2x M-40) wiggle a little bit. But, there is no apparent signal degradation (no static, hum/hiss, buzz, crackling, sound dropout, etc.) if I move them during operation.

It would be nice if they were solid, but it doesn't seem to be causing any problems that I can detect.

The RCA output on my C85 preamp was loose when it was being checked out where I bought it. It had caused a crackling sound from a solder joint going intermittent (according to the tech). Obviously this could be apples and oranges, but maybe across the board the RCA connections were a weak point. They said it was an easy fix.

The RCA connectors on the preamps are board mounted and yes, when they wiggle they are usually working a solder joint loose. Poor design but very common. The bigger M amps are designed differently. You can see the RCA's mounted to a sub-board in my pics of the M 85.
