Yamaha M-Series Power Amps

Of the M series, what amp, tuner, preamp combination would you folks recommend, or would it be best to stick with a particular series of components (e.g., M85, C85, T85)?

From what I have found out around here, pretty much any of the Yamaha C-/M- series is great stuff. Personally, I prefer the earlier single digit stuff in that there're less bell & whistles than the more recent double digit stuff but that's just me. :thmbsp:

Some of the later CX-series preamps get pretty busy with all the added digital/video stuff, but the C- models are pretty plain. The CX-1 is, also. And the latest Yamaha high-end pre is very plain. In fact, IIRC, it is a passive preamp. Nice thing about them, is they all sound quite similar and have excellent or better phono-stages.
 
B-2, the CX series have always had the video part. Ever sense it started in 1987 (the CX-10000), with the CX-1 being the exception. As I know it, only the CX-10000/2000/1000 has the digital in part.
 
Ditto....same for the M-50 (ZDR, x-power, etc) (120w @ 8ohm), and the C series have both MM and MC capabilities w/more bells and whistles than one could hope for, and in my case, I need them with all the extra outboard devices.
(Reel-to-Reels, CD Player, Cassette Player, looped EQ/Expander, etc.)

Probably my best and strongest 2ch component IMO
 
I have been mightily impressed with the superb sound of my CX-2. The video inputs can be used for more sources like multiple cdplayers or whatever, so a good thing since many folks complain that vintage gear doesn't have enough aux inputs.
My CX-2 is controlling the most excellent M-80 driving the Phase Linear P-530s.

Correct, CX-1 did away with the video inputs but also bought down the intial price, also MX-1 did away with the LED meters and they made it sleeker as well.
 
Waiting on a B-70...

...which I am led to believe is the across the pond version of the M-70. Traded a pair of HPM-1500's to a well known NC speaker junkie for the promise of one when he gets a chance to finish recapping and rehabbing it. Last I saw it was in pieces in his basement...:tears: Are there any significant differences between it and the M-70? Any special concerns?

I'm part Dutch (Van Der Pol ancestry), and still can't understand a lick! My Uncle's been to Amsterdam, and my buddy has been to Holland to visit the smoke houses ....guess we know what he had on his mind, and it wasn't the tulips.:scratch2: :scratch2: :D

God I love Dutch women, and you do know Dorothy Van Stratton (Stratton) was also Dutch........IMO, the most beautiful woman ever!

Ooops and directed toward Analog Addict.....Danish you said, but don't the Dutch and Scandinavian countries have very similar languages? Pardon my ignorance, and as luck would have it, I'm also part Danish. Middle name "DAHL", pronounced "doll" definitely Danish(father side), and Dutch(mother side).

Just to go a little further OT, Iv'e been to germany, holland, and denmark, and speak german pretty fluently. The languages all seem to be a spectrum of languages that are also distantly related to english. Street is Straat in dutch, Strasse in german, but Gade in danish. Danish is the most different, being closer to some of the other nordic tongues. Thanks for that in danish is "tak for det"...I love denmark....lots of big tall blonde ladies....:tongue:
