Yamaha MX-2000/CX-2000 on the Bay

You'd think that a scammer would price things for less than the market value instead of more. That MX-2000/CX-2000 would go for around $2K to $2400 in top condition.
 
Farah seems to import rare and esoteric gear from Japan. Beware of 100V units, which is never mentioned in his auctions.
 
"scamming" is a somewhat of a strong word for it, IMHO. at last count, some of us figured that they are most likely shipping in legitimate items from Asia that match the product but are not necessarily the exact item pictured (that's how they can have multiple sales of an identical listing, all with positive feedback). if they just came out and said that's what they were doing, that would be one thing. when you get an item that's in different shape than the one pictured, even if they never explicitly say you're getting the pictured item, it's definitely not cool, but i'm just not sure i'd personally call it a scam. just my humble opinion.

Of course the price is almost double what I make in a month, so I can't even afford to dream about them.

i wouldn't buy anything from that guy. The fact he does not disclose such an important detail such as the 100v thingy, makes me thing what else he's not telling.

I would not be surprised to learn he replaced good internal parts with cheap once. I once had an exchange of messages with that guy, and he is not a nice person.
 
Some people on AK reported a good deal with this fellow. And his feedback on eBay doesn't raise any red flags. However... one has to wonder what kind of idiosyncrasies his buyers may have overlooked or were not properly captured in feedback when encountered. That whole voltage issue bugs me... and I'd not be happy using some converter for it.

This seller (pure_vintage_audio) used to be known as farah something was flagged on eBay a couple of weeks ago. It seems eBay pulled all the listing and suspended the account due to some dispute problems with the buyer. But his account is reinstated and he is back on the bay again.

Regardless of whether he is legit or not, he is obviously selling some 100V Japanese model without disclosing it.

I've read that these external universal power transformers should never be used with audio equipment, especially on high end equipment. Here is where I read about this topic.
