Yamaha Natural Sound components

Hey, I just picked up a set of vintage Yamaha components--tower speakers (NS A-380 I believe, just massive, in beautiful oak cabinets), and then a bunch of "Natural Sound" pieces, will have to recheck exact model numbers--but a tuner, amp, equalizer, cassette deck, CD player, and turntable. All for $125. A good deal? Also, if I want to resell some of these items on Ebay (forget about the speakers, the cost of shipping would be astronomical, they are not only almost four feet tall but also HEAVY, maybe sell on Craigslist locally?), should I package together the tuner, amp, and equalizer? Or better to sell them individually? Any thoughts appreciated.

Hard to know without knowing what your other components are. I don't believe the speakers are any big deal however.

And, before you get beat up for it, questions of value, etc. belong in Dollars and Sense.
Once it's moved (ask a mod) post some pics, model numbers, etc. It sounds like a rack system to me, but without more info, again, hard to tell.

Ah, yes, I've made the mis-categorization mistake before. Yes, definitely a rack system, so probably not terribly high-end. The speakers are a big deal in the sense that they are definitely BIG (joke there). I think they are load-bearing speakers. If a rack system, then maybe they need to be sold as a set, esp. the tuner/amp/equalizer? I see that they involve the use of some tape to connect some of the pieces, not entirely sure what that is about, plus the tape connects on the front of the pieces, so not exactly a pleasing, clean look.
 
PS I found a picture on the internet of the exact speaker, the nice thing is the bass gets lifted off the ground by the design of the cabinet.
 
Oh, the dreaded tape connectors. Sony was big on those, Mitsubishi too. Heck, probably all of the rack systems. I've run across some of those items and right to the donation pile they go. Pretty much useless without the rest of the system. But on the front? Let's see this!

I won't be the one to badmouth a rack system for being a rack system. If it sounds good and is in good shape, who cares what it is?

Will do, at the office now, will try to post pictures in the next day or two. Yeah, with the tape thing (if I remember correctly there is one that runs from the tuner and then splits into two, one that connect to the amp, one to the equalizer, but I had to disconnect to move the thing, hope I can remember how to configure it), maybe I have to sell the three together as a unit.
 
Ribbon tape = flat cable, or what ever it's called?
This type of stuff correct?

I have a Technics system connected together with ribbon cable. Just because it uses ribbon doesn't mean it's bad - in fact it sounds bloody good for a micro component system ! You will need to sell the whole package for sure, but why not keep it as a garage or bedroom system ? The Yamaha gear gets plenty of love around here :-)
 
A friend of mine had a rack system a lot like that. The power supply was contained in one of the components, so you had to connect them all to that unit for any of them to function. So, must be sold as a complete unit. Not really something most of us on AK would be interested in, but as a garage system or for a dorm room it might have some use. IMO, you would be lucky to recover more than what you paid on resale.
 
Yes, the above picture of "flat cable" is accurate, albeit it's not a cable of many colors like that one! As a very small bonus the stuff I got came with a Discwasher set, lots of memories there.
 
I had/have some Fisher components where the tape deck, for example, came with a plug that ONLY fits into the Fisher tuner--ridiculous, I assume a way to force consumers to buy multiple components from the same manufacturer--a bit cynical there. If I remember correctly the tape deck didn't work, so I threw it out, then sold tuner and amp together as set on Ebay.

I only meant that I've run across individual parts of the whole. But these are usually junk store finds. I often wonder if the entire unit is somewhere hiding the back room, like that Mitsubishi tape deck I found a couple years ago. What happened to the rest of it?

Francis, if you live anywhere close to my parents in Henderson - do put that system in the garage and turn it up to 11! My father needs more excitement in his life! :thumbsup:
 
So I have the model numbers for the Yamaha rack system. And it turns out the previous owner had the tape connectors snaking around the front, but they do connect in the back of course.
All Yamaha Natural Sound. Turntable: P-31. CD Player: CDC-506. Speakers: NS-A380. Amp: AV-55. Tape Deck: K-45. Equalizer: EQ-50. Tuner: T-33.
 
And an old Who album still on the turntable! Crazy dusty, time to bring out the bonus Discwasher set and give it a listen....And hey, no lid on turntable, I assume those get lost because the cabinet doesn't allow for that lid to remain on. A common issue?
