You can't sand some wood varieties (oak, for instance) good enough to put piano black on. You have to use a filler/sealer. Just shake well and apply and sand. May take a few coats, but soon will be in good shape for a piano black finish. I especially like those 'red' speakers. Very nice.Originally, I wanted to do a black piano finish, but I couldn't sand the primer flat enough to get a clean base to paint over.
... Chip - What do you think of your SS-M7 speakers?
Chip, check out Parts Express, they sell three sizes of those grill cover plastic holders, you should be able to find a size that will fit in the existing holes and replace the old ones.
Chip - I'll be down your way on July 12. I could pick them up and bring them back here and listen for you. Just let me know a good time........![]()
I am happy to say I just joined the NS-1000M owner's club. I picked up a beautiful pair last weekend and have them hooked to my Pioneer Elite A-71 amp. Wow! now I see what everyone means about these speakers in the various threads I have read. Only problem is one tweeter is not performing up to par. Very low output and degraded sound. Probably toasted so I bought a NOS one on ebay to replace it. Hated to spend extra $ but to make it match the good one will be worth it. Looking forward to many more hours with these! I don't think I'll be scouring the sites for speakers anymore.
You can still get brand new ones from Yamaha for 110-140 dollars. I paid 110 bucks 18 months ago.By the way welcome to the club...:thmbsp:Probably toasted so I bought a NOS one on ebay to replace it.
