Yamaha ns-500m

I just came across a pair of Yamaha ns-500m speakers owned by a retired music teacher. They seem to be in pristine condition and sound great.

They are wanting $395 and not budging on the price. Is this a reasonable price or should I hold off?

I own a pair. They are my daily runners mated to a Denon receiver.
They sound stellar.
I don't think 400 bucks is a terrible price.
Especially if they are in mint condition.

I think that sounds like a very fair price, for a pair if good condition. I have two pairs and that's right in line with what I paid for each pair. As for sound, I like them, for what they are. I prefer them to many much more popular brands of three ways in a box, of ported design. These the about as close to a pair of NS1000m's as your going to get.
 
If the awesome NS-1000M didn't cast such a large shadow, the lesser M's like the 500M and 200M would enjoy far more limelight and respect in the marketplace. Seriously, the 500M and 200M are both very well made with cast baskets and thick walled cabinets with plenty of internal bracing to squash unwanted resonance.

$400 is near top dollar for 500M's but for what you are getting, they offer excellent sound and superb value. If you are looking for a daily driver, get them.
