Yamaha NS-670 midrange replacement

I need a replacement for a NS-670 midrange speaker. Will a NS-690 unit work. How much larger will I have to make a flange opening. Or are there any other Yamaha midrange units that will work.
I have not pulled the unit yet, on travel. What is the part number for a NS-670 midrange

The 670 uses a smaller mid than its bigger brother, the 690. Info is here:

Thanks for the site Ryuuoh:thmbsp: There are countless very juicy photos of vintage Yamaha speakers. I just finished a guided tour of some guy dismantling his NS-690II's. Driver by driver, bit by bit, literally.:yes:

I recently bought two NS-690 mid range speakers, of which one was dead. I pried out the gasket that holds in the screen and tested the VC. I got an open between the solder terminals but I got a normal reading between the spots where the flex wires connect. I found that one flex wire had gone open but very careful removal of some insulation allowed me to just touch the break with solder. The speaker now works. You might want to chack your NS-670 mid this same way.

Well, this old thread sure came in handy!
I bought a pair of NS-960's today and one had a dead mid range.

Yep, exact same problem, a break in the flex wire where it connects to the lug.
Cleaned off the black coating and soldered it back and it works fine!
Now on to refoaming the Woofers!
