Yamaha NS-690 - got these for free - want to check all drivers

I got these for free. Had not had a chance to check them out thoroughly with my restored Pioneer SX-1250.

Due to working from home, I now wanted to ask for advice. These are three way speakers, with a dome tweeter (think it’s metal), a mid-range, and a large woofer.

I felt the high end just was not there upon first listen, but now I see there are two pots for the tweeter and the mid-range. I will play with these but if I hear no diffrrence, the crossovers could be gone or the pots smoked because of too high levels. I am pretty sure I could replace the crossovers, but would be lost at sea if the pots are bad.
Any pointers about how to test and/or repair the pots would be appreciated.

First clean the pots with some electronics cleaner. They’re often dirty, preventing the signal from passing through.
 
Use a multi meter to see if the value of the pot changes as you rotate the dial on the pot.
Set meter to lowest or next to lowest Ohm setting.
Put one probe on the in lead to the pot and the other probe on the out lead from the pot.
Have the system off of course when doing this. If you can disconnect one of the wires from the tweeter then the tweeter itself will not figure into the reading ie. you'll get a reading for the pot only.
An example below, you wires may be different, you want to see the resistance reading change as you go from one end of the dial to the other.

Which version do you have? They are really nice speakers IMO. Lots of people complain that they don't have bass. I find that the bass is just right. Get them up off the floor, tilted back a bit, and away from the wall if possible and you will be happy you got them.

Tweeters are likely shot..

yeh just spray a drop in to the potentiometers and work them back and forward to see if any sound returns to the tweeters
 
Great price! There is a set of Series II available locally here and the seller is asking $500.

I have since bought a pair of used Bose 901 Series VI. They sound awesome, although did not come with the Bose equalizer. Cost $200 - picked up locally. All speakers are in good shape. Just need to see if I can find the equalizer. Saw a refurbished one for $800 on eBay. Yikes!
