Yamaha NS 690 or JBL L40 ?!

If you had to choose:

Yamaha NS 690 II

or

JBL L40

??

I have a pair of the NS 690II, and while I like them quite a lot, I always to find them too big for simple living room purposes and could imagine to downsize.
A replacement option would be the JBLs L40.

What would you do? Opinions are much appreciated :)

Big, is a subjective term, I suppose. You'd definitely be trading down in terms of sound quality if you went with the JBLs. A fine 3-way vs a so-so 2-way that is in desperate need of a mid-range.
