hi everybody i have a like new pair of ns-a635a that sound like crap and i want some advices here to take a decision about making it a project of several mods(renforce cabinets, add good x-overs, change tweeters and add damping ect.or, juste swaping them at the local dump. i have four other pairs of good sounding boxes so don't know. does it worth the time in modifing? maybe someone here as already done that kind of project?

I also look forward on hearing anyone's insight on such a project. The upgrade bug has also bitten me, but with a different set of speakers.

They were cheap speakers to start with, so unless you're really looking for a project, I'd imagine your time and money would be better spent elsewhere.

In my experience, they're not awful, but they're certainly not great, either.
I wouldn't -- and didn't -- waste my time on a pair that passed through my basement some years back.

That said, adding some stuffing, bracing and replacing the (most likely) two NP electrolytics that make up the crossover with a couple of decent capacitors would likely improve their sound. Whether it's worth the effort in any way, shape, or form is debatable (but testable), I'd opine.

I wouldn't recommend going any farther than that with 'em, for the enclosures themselves are pretty nominal; not a good platform for a true makeover (again, strictly my opinion).

In true AK fashion, sell or donate. You've stated you have better sounding speakers, and based on the "tone" (so to speak) of your initial post it likely would not amount to a equal return on investment (ROI). Or put another way, you may not get out of them what you ultimately will have invested. That would prove a bigger setback AND you likely would not recoup your investment.

Someone out there WILL appreciate them as their are always people out there starting out who are still in the White Van phase, or inherited some "Big Box Store" component system.

Wouldn't mind having that KA-7100, nice amp. Had a KA-3500, and miss it.

yes, this ka-7100 is a long story... about the ns-a, my starting idea was not to built a pair of speakers that will be my best but, i like the small design of them. my other boxes are most floorstanding type so...maybe should be best to work on my bose 301? i know they are better quality than the ns-a but i always dislike the ported design. all my sets of speakers are closed box.

well, i must be foul; i've started my project.another.1- renforcing the box(eliminating resonance)2-new woofers. 3-crossover conception and installation. i'll make one and compare to the other. be back
