I fully intend to replace the terminals when I get around to it.. it's too easy to short-out the wire connections with the existing ones, given the kind of plug-ends I'm using (Cardas). I stick hand-cut blocks of foam between the wires to prevent any accidental shorts, but still I'm not comfortable with that. I'd like to get 5-way connectors in there. Has anyone here tried the ones sold on eBay? I've thought about them, but after shipping, etc... I think I'd be just as well off making my own from locally-sourced parts. In fact, I think I still have good spare connectors in a parts box!
I'm also curious about the people who add (or sell for others to add) fuzes to their systems, to protect the tweeters. I'm not sure how or why anyone's tweeters go bad on these; mine take everything I throw at them with aplomb; the NS-1000 seems to me to be a very capable and robust speaker. Granted, driver replacement is something I don't want to face, but is a fuse really necessary? Are those drivers really that fragile, when powered with capable amps?
As for crossovers, I don't hear any problems with mine that I can attribute to capacitor issues; they sound VERY good as-is. It's hard to imagine them improving very much in accuracy, at least. Still, short of the "self-healing" caps used in the higher models of this series, I imagine any/all electrolytic caps worsen over time, so at some point I will recap mine. Hopefully it will be one of those "a veil has lifted, that I hadn't even realized was there" kind of moments.
Despite having read various NS-1000 recap threads in the past, I'm looking forward to following this one!
