Following very good experience with NS555 mod described in another thread by ecommers I decided to improve sound in my NS333. Yamaha used cheap parts in crossovers which apparently deteriorated with time.
I just substitute one capacitor and one coil per speaker. Parts used (got mine from HiFi Collective): Audyn plus cap @ 4.7 uf 800v and Jantzen 1.2 mh 15 awg Air-Core coil per speaker (I substituted Yamaha parts with the same values). New parts are pretty big. Capacitor was placed instead of old capacitor and coil, a new Jantzen coil was mounted on a separate board (just piece of board glued to the back wall of the speaker using epoxy).
What a difference! Upper/lower ends way better, distortions way less. For approx. $60 for parts I got speakers one order better than before this mod.
Highly recommended upgrade.
Thank you ecommers for sharing NS555 mod.
