Hi all I'm a newbie but live my vintage audio , I have had some highish quality stuff in the past ( example krix series 2 neuphonics running a big Dennon amplifier and a d class 1000 W Rotel power amp also coupled with a set of klipsh rp 280f floor standing and a big paradigm sub ) but I found vintage audio and love it , I'm looking for suggestions as a pre amplifier for my Yamaha power amp that will compliment my fat penguins ( BOWERS AND WILKINS DM6 ) I don't really want to spend any more than about $500

Good afternoon
Love the fact your looking to preamp your Yami P-2200 I have 4 of them and I use a vintage Nikko beta 30 for two of mine and a Nikko beta 50 for the other 2 because the Nikko preamps have two outputs for power amps. And they have a similar look to them and match my Yami’s Hope that helps.
Shane

I'd also recommend the C-80 or C-85 (they are the same). I use four P2200 / P2201 amps (P2201 is the same as P2200 but without the meters), all powered by a C-80. It has great output voltage and can drive multiple amps easily if you go that route. It also has inverted pre-outs that allow for some really cool configurations, including bridging amps that don't have their own way of being bridged, and also being able to run a single amplifier with one channel inverted to increase the power output of the amplifier. I use my C-80 to power 6 amps at the moment, the 4 P2200/P2201 amps are bridged, along with a P3500 and an M-2 in stereo (with one channel inverted).

From the C-80 Manual:

Hey guys and thankyou for the welcome , I was running an as-100 teac amplifier , but sold it to a mate because I had a Marantz lined up and it fell through , I shouldn't have sold the teac , but I'm looking for something that's just nice everywhere , the teac was a gorgeous sounding amplifier just nice everywhere highs mids and bass , but I would like to be able to run another Yamaha p2200 at some stage too

Hi Wally,

Welcome aboard, The Yamaha Pro Amps are excellent when properly service and adjusted. (These Amps are 35+ years in age and need attention)
I've A/B my Yamaha with a few different Pre Amps at different price points, The Aragon Aurum pre amp is a giant giant killer for the money and it mates beautifully with the Yamaha PC 2002M, they show up once in a while on the used market. I've own the Yamaha Pre Amps ( C2X & C4 ) but they are not my cup of tea. I currently rotate the following Pre Amps in my system, The Aragon Aurum, Bryston BP 25, Placette Audio Passive, and the king of Pre Amp's, The Kylne Audio Arts 7 with a built in mm/mc Phono stage that is purely magical. When in the mood for tubes, I keep on hand the, Audio Research Reference 3 Pre Amp which mates beautifully with my solid state power amplifiers.

Will a CX-1000 or 2000 have the proper specs, etc for a 2200 ? I want a control amp with a remote, or just to be able to use a remote somehow !!!

It would probably be hard to find a Yamaha preamp that wouldn't work fine with the P2200. It should be able to work with just about any preamp.

Thank-you Mr. Brown..........I am being extra careful because I am mixing pro stuff with home hi-fi. Trying to match the impedancies correctly.

I have several Yamaha pro mixed with home series. No problem so far. They sound just awesome ;)
