Yamaha PC2002 tripping circuit breaker?

Hi,

So I just want to ask anybody who owns a Yamaha PC2002 or similar if they're having problems with circuit breakers tripping when they power up the amplifier. I've just had the amp serviced and the technician told me he measured the power draw and on power up it exceeds 12A. My breaker is 16A and I have several other devices connected. Not to mention that the PC2002 is last to be powered up to avoid pops at the speakers.

I can't do any electricity work in the apartment as it is rented and I will probably be out of here in less than a year.

So is 12A at power up normal for the PC2002? Any way to solve this without breaking walls? And the bank?

You may have and old worn out breaker that needs to be replaced with a new one of the same amperage.
 
Could be, but it's more likely that the yamaha is to blame isn't it? I mean, 12A. And this never happened with anything other than this amp.

BTW. I use the cheapest power strips, will better power strips help in any way?

Is it the mains breaker tripping or a breaker in the power strip that is tripping? If the former, then no, unless perhaps you go to some type of power conditioning unit. If the latter then "maybe" if it's just a weak breaker in the power strip.
 
He means his fuse I believe.
Flextone, I noticed this problem with every one of my PC2002Ms. The fuses in Germany are too fast. Maybe you try a Kabeltrommel ;) with a tength of 25-50m, this should solve this issue. As PC2002s where built, the fuses in most households where not that fast.

The older your installation, the greater the chance they don't jump in.
The best solution is just the purchase of this:

I got one and since then everything is fine. Aber probiere es erstmal mit der Kabeltrommel, die hilft in den meisten Fällen. Es hat in der Tat nichts mit deinem Verstärker zu tun!

Mine is on a 15A line, and so far zero problems. Not even a slight dimming of the lights. I always power up sources and pre first, then the amp last; never all at once.

Thanks for the tip Marne! Looks like exactly what I need. I prefer the device you linked to than a 50m cable :)

I'll give it a try.
 
Mine will dim the lights when I power it on, but it won't trip the 20a breaker.

I kinda like the dimming - reminds me how much current this baby can deliver :-)

I run three PC-2002M's on a dedicated 20 amp circuit. If I power up two at once, it will trip. I use a Furman conditioner/delay timer to power them up in sequence. :yes:
