Yamaha PF-1000, Cartridge recommendations

I have a Yamaha PF-1000 that I just refurbished and had the cueing solenoid repaired. With a new belt and cueing cylinder reloaded with new silicone fluid, it now works great. I'm now looking for recommendations on a new cartridge.

I had been considering a Dynavector 10x5 as it seems to be very highly regarded. There is an old AT 140LC on it now. My concern is tonearm height. right now the arm is at its maximum height with the AT 140LC and it is barely parallel to the platter.

Anyone out there with a PF-800 or PF-1000 have any suggestions on a compatible cartridge or know if the 10x5 will have the appropriate VTA in the tonearm?

It came with the Yamaha MC-705 witch is a relabled AT cart, so most AT carts will do fine.

In the price range of the Dynavector 10x5 you will also find the AT-OC9 and quite a bit lower the AT-440MLa (MM). I think most will be happy with any of these carts on the TT.

I got a PF-800.....It came with a Shure V15 IV,,,,I have been very pleased but changed to a Denon DL 160 with very good results as well,,,,,since the 160 is now broken in I probably like it a little better than the Shure.Fine TT you got there.

Thanks for the suggestions. The AT-OC9 was another one that I had been considering as well. Any experience or thoughts on the Denon DL-103R?

phatster I have to correckt you a bit, to my knolege the PF-800 came without a cart. If there was a cart on it when you bought it, it must have been mounted by the local dealer. Only the PF-1000 came with a cart in the box.

But if the shure worked on the 800, it will also do on the 1000

When I bought my PF-1000 (on that action site) it was supposed to come with a Denon DL-304, but the guy pulled it off before shipping the TT The good thing is, now you know that one will fit the arm

Any experience or thoughts on the Denon DL-103R?

I ran a 103 on my PF-800 and liked it. I broomed the PF and that cart is now on a P3 / Origin Live and sounds much better. The PF is a good table but the arm has it's limitations. Once I grabbed the Heybrook TT2 which is far better I knew I would probably never bring the PF out again so I sold it.
