Yamaha PF-1000

I came across a Yamaha PF-1000 for a cool $300 and after doing a google search could only come up with some pix and a few numbers. Does anyone have experience with this turntable? It's outward appearence is really nice but three bills seems a bit proud.

if in great shape and working correctly, $300 is good. I'm sure they sell for $500 and up!
 
I'd even say 300 is a bargain. Perhaps you've already found it, but here is some info and pics on this beauty.
 
Thanks for the info. guys. Are there any issues/lowpoints I should know about it. I'm a classic audio lover on a budget and three hundred is still alot of money to me. I am currently running a Dual 1019 and am working on a Dual 1219, but if the consensus is that the Yamaha is a superior turntable, I will probably sell both and get the Yamaha.
 
well, I have 1219 and my Kenwood KD-650 kicked it to the backroom. I'd sell both Duals in a minute for PF-1000!
 
Yes there is one thing, the arm is special. It is a dual tube construction, the tubes has to be straight and un-damaged. Not that it is a common error but it will cripple the deck as I don't know if Yamaha still has spear parts for it.

Otherwise I'd say the TT is pretty straight forward.

If you also need a new cart, spend $90 on a AT-440MLa (MM) and you will have a really good source.
 
Nice looking table it is. From comments I have read online, it seems to be a good notch above even the better Japanese decks. As has been pointed out, parts will be an issue, but Yamaha did always build things extraordinarily well.
Should be a keeper.

Yamaha has no parts for these tables. Tried to get a dust cover and arm for a busted up PF-800 several years ago. No parts what so ever are in stock.

As far as issues go, One that has been mentioned, but I haven't seen, is that the spring for the anti skate will brake. I've had two 800's and a 1000. All with out problems.
 
I recently acquired a PF-1000 and couldn't be more pleased. Solid construction (close to 30lbs and a heavy platter), great fidelity (much, much better than my YP-800 which was Yamaha's TOTL table in 1975 or so), and easy on the eyes as well!

I paid more than $300 for mine, but it is in like new condition, and came with the original MC-5 Yamaha moving coil cartridge. I am about to resurrect a Pickering XSV-3000 to see how it sounds with this table.

If the deck you are looking at is in decent shape, I would highly recommended spending the $300.

junkaudio, are you saying the MC-5 is not a very good cartridge? Have you used one before? It sounds great to me but I haven't compared to many other cartridges (hence my plan to check out the Pickering).
