YAMAHA preamplifier CX 1000 Problem with analog inputs....

I have the CX 1000 about 5-6 years now along with the MX-1000 power amp.
I use it in my dent as a second setup which is more used than my main system as i spend many hours in this room....
It is more than a year now that i have the following problem: I use the analog inputs to hook up a Nakamichi CD player 3. When i play the CD i experience complete loss of sound on both channels and at the same time i also have the 44.1 sampling frequency green light on! It is only lit for as long as the sound is lost. The same thing can happen to other analog sources (cassette deck) on other analog inputs of the pre-amp...
The problem is happening randomly and i may be listening to an analogue source without problem for 1 hour and then i can experience the problem 4-5 times in a row within 5 minutes!
The only analog source which has no problem is the phono input of any type (MM or MC phono cartridge)
Has any one experienced such a problem with this unit? I would very much appreciate any input i love this setup and would really like to fix this problem....

I have not. Mine is the original condition and one of the low serial numbers too. No issues what so ever.
How often do you plug-unplug the RCA cables? Did you try connecting a digital source? If not please do so and report back.
 
Also, I am assuming that at one point it was playing fine at that sample rate..Did you try switching to a different sample rate?
 
are there any digital sources connected? perhaps the preamp is givng a digital signal priority - i know my yamaha HTR prefers digital signals if they're available
 
It does sound like it is switching to digital when no digital source is connected. I would verify that nothing is plugged into the CD digital input.

My CX-2000 will do something similar when connected to my laser disc player. It happens to me when I connect both analog and digital (as discs vary). When there is no digital track, the laser disc player still generates a blank digital signal, which the CX-1/2000 selects instead of the analog one, and so I get no sound until I unplug the digital cable. Really a problem with the laserdisc player I guess...

If nothing is connected to digital and it still acts up, I would try a different input as a test. It's possibly just that one that falses to digital.

What is really weird about the problem is that when i use my tuner there is no problem with the signal, it comes out without any issue. My player is hooked on analog inputs it is a Nakamichi CD player 3 (no digital outputs)
Also with my turntable i also have no problems.
I will follow advice and will come back with results, thank you for your inputs.

Hi thank you for your input, no there are no digital controls currently hooked up, and yes this is how it looks like! I will double check at the back of the unit in case i forgot something but i am almost certain...will come back to you with any findings!

Clean any & all switches & controls with tuner cleaner or deoxit. Once you expose the innards, doing them all makes sense. Why have to revisit it @ a later date?

I have the unit about 10 years it is a 110V Ac brought from the US. I never tried other sample rates ....I will try and report...But from what i can recall i never had a problem with digital sources (like BD -player that i had in the setup at one point... the problem only starts with anolog sources connected specifically on tape 1 tape 2 tape 3 and Cd...Will have to check the rest to figure out...
 
I once damaged the hi level inputs (tape, CD, & Aux) of my preamp by inducing a hi level transient. Both phono & FM were unaffected. However, do the total cleaning with deoxit 1st.

i'm pretty sure with mine, you can 'force' it to pick the analogue inputs over the digital, but if you change sources, it defaults back...input mode is the name of the control that does this.
 
This sounds like a potential IC issue. IC433 or IC420, cant remember which, was the chip that has had issues before on one of my cx1000's. I had to go find a broke donor to fix it. I'll have to get home and look to be sure.

OK,
So this is weierd. When I posted the above, my CX had no issues. I have not used it for a while. Last I used it was with a digital input.

I brought the CX out today and tried to hook it up, then surprise; none of the analog inputs work ( have not tried the phono)

So, I guess I was wrong about my unit not having problems.
