Yamaha R-2000 -- volume pot problem --rebuild?? service request

I have a Yamaha R-2000 that works fine on all inputs etc. The volume knob was very , very scratchy so have given it 2 rounds of Deoxit. After the second round the pot is still scratchy with one other problem -- it is hyper sensitive to moving the volume knob and the volume can become blaringly loud. Without warning even the slightest touch can cause it blast.

I don't think this can be deoxited anymore??? What kind of pot can I use to replace it? Will pots from other in the R-series or CR-series work in there?

If there is anyone willing to rebuild the silver series Yammies like this R-2000 please PM me. There are some lights out too, and the tuner needs a looking in to, so I am thinking of a full recap and rebuild if it does not break my bank..

The one I currently have is my second one.
Both had similar issues to what you describe here.

Long story. Got the first one repaired in a shop in Chinatown but they weren't able to find all parts. Got lucky and found another R-2000. Similar problems. Brought both of them to the same shop for them to Frankenstein one out of the two. Worked for a while but eventually the issues came back.

Brought it to Analogique. They finally fixed it for good.
The spatial expander is still a bit wacky, but I never really cared for it. And the tuner memory tends to forget stations programmed (is there a battery that needs to be replaced?) and when the tuner is not selected it seems to constantly search for stations in the background (the latter is not really an issue).

The R-2000 is a powerful, well-built receiver that puts out well-define, crystal clear sound. It's well worth the investment!

Maybe the DeOxit isn't actually making it into the pot?
There is probably a super cap that maintains memory. Could be a battery though.

Did the final fix involve having the spare R-2000?

Something does get in since initially it fixes it. But it keeps happening. So I think "some" deoxit must be getting to it....but of course I have not opened it to check it out.

Yes, the tuner and the battery are well known companions!

Sorry for the delay, chapps.
I don’t remember the cost at Analogique, but if you look at the prices for these series now (with the R-2000 being one of the near TOTL) it’s worth it. His prices are fair (if not low) and for a little fee he’ll give you a good estimate. If I recall correctly he mentioned something like he used to be an official licensed Yamaha repair shop back in the day.
Where else can you bring it anyway?

In my case though the radio of the R-2000 now suddenly doesn’t produce any sound anymore, just a very faint humming. That can’t just be a memory/battery issue, right…?
If there’s another issue now that needs repair I have to start wondering if I praised this thing a bit too much. I have yet to experience a better sounding receiver for what I paid for everything (incl. repairs). Dilemma.

Since my Nikko has issues now too (beyond periodically deoxing) I start wondering if this costly/time consuming hobby just involves repairs and fiddling every so often do to the age of the material. Maybe chronic upgrade-itis is not the only disease involved, maybe servicing never stops - just like what they say about vintage cars: don’t do it, it’s a money pit and service and maintenance a real pain in the a**.

Sometimes I just want to turn it on and enjoy the sound/music…
