i just got a yamaha rx-1130 and have an issue.
i did not get a remote for it and the mute is on (muting -20db).
is there any way i can turn off the mute without the remote?.
like resetting the receiver to factory default? or can i without the remote.

I used to sell them and have one now (no remote) and I don't know of a way. Your best bet is to pick up the cheapest (used, refurb, store sale on entry level model) Harmony. You can download the commands and take it from there. It will cost you less than digging up the original Yamaha remote.

ya i got this for $12.50 lol.
it's in great shape.
i found an original remote for $85 on the bay but not sure if i want to spend that just yet.
