yamaha rx-v450 hook up eq

i apologize if i sound agitated. i tryed to post here and it did'nt go through. did i take too long to gather my thoughts? how? not enough bass from rx-v450 thru 4 speakers denon 1940 to optical in. want eq. onkyo p-3150v pre amp run phono, dvd thru pre amp to rx-v450 at rca cd in? eq would not work at md cdr in out at rx-v450 even reversed connected. help!
