I’m trying to repair my “old” Yamaha the pots are very scratchy and would like to replace but I don’t understand the difference between audio , linear taper or much of anything else the pots are as follows, 340a 30kmn, 343n 20k x2, 340a s-16 x2

Have you tried cleaning them? Look for threads on cleaning pots with De-oxit........I'd certainly try that first.

You don't need to read the whole thread, the first couple pages should give you an idea what to do.
You need to get the cleaner INSIDE the control, shooting the outside or the shaft are not the best way to attempt cleaning. Look for slots, first picture 2 little slits on rear pf control or the bigger slit on the front by the shaft, should be obvious where to insert cleaner on 2nd image.
