Yamaha T-1 meter pointers and fluorescent paint

I recently acquired a Yamaha T-1 to go with my wonderful C-4 and M-4 amplifiers. Among other issues, the orange coating on the two meter pointers was partially flaked off. I understand this is a common problem with the T-1.

Apparently, the original coating is a fluorescent substance: when light hits the surface, it actually glows. I discovered this after I removed the flaky stuff and replaced it with an orange paint. Now it's very hard to see the dial pointers.

Yesterday, I bought a spray can of Krylon "fluorescent" orange paint. It's a very bright color, but it does not fluoresce. Does anyone know of a paint, or something that can be mixed into a paint, that will literally glow in the dark the way some watch faces do? :scratch2:

Thanks!

If there was you would not want to mess with it. It seems that the women who used to put the flourescent paint on watch dials woul lick the tip of the brush to get a fine point. Many of them ended up with cancer of the mouth.

True. But that was when radium was widely used to make things glow in the dark. So the "sick" was radiation poisioning and the cancer was real. It's not used commercially anymore for consumer goods.

A quick Google search will find all of the fluorescent phosphorescent paint you would need. I'm sure you could find small quantities if you look long enough.

thanks

Rob and supwiddiss, thanks for the replies.

I did some googling for fluorescent paints, but did not come up with anything as relevant as the link you provided.

I'll be careful to keep the brush out of my mouth when I apply the radioactive paint!

Gotta love the resourceful AK membership.
