Yamaha VS Sansui receiver question

Hi everybody
I need your opinion on something.

I recently bought a vintage Yamaha CR-820 receiver (which I'm currently restoring).
but I've found a sansui 6060 that's for sale and I'm really tempted because I really like how it looks. The question is:
Is this particular sansui model an upgrade from my yamaha?
or is it the same (or less)?
Always talking about sound (mostly) and construction quality.

PS. I was thinking of saving some money in the future for a Sansui 9090db so maybe I shouldn't bother with the 6060 but I would like to know how it stands against the yamaha cr820

My thoughts are it's more of a sideways move rather than an upgrade. Both are nice motl receivers and they have their own signature sound. The Yammy has a cleaner more modernish sound where the Sui has a thicker less forward sound. Depending on your speakers and personal preference either one could work well in your situation. Landing a 9090db would likely make you forget all about either one though.
 
I'm a Yamaha guy so I'd stick with that but nothing at all wrong with a 6060. If it's a good enough price buy it and keep the one you like the most (who am I kidding, just keep both.)
 
Overall a lateral move, you may sacrifice some sound quality for looks or this feature for that but tough to crown a clear winner.

Enjoy what you have and keep saving / hunting for a 9090 or a Yamaha CR 2040
 
If the price is good enough in relation to ebay, buy! You can flipper your way into audio dollars and get what you really want. A lot of us have built fantastic collections this way.
 
I've seen a few 9090dbs (on ebay) but they're quite expensive, I guess there's a lot of demand.
Those vintage receivers are so beautiful, I could just power one up and just gaze at it, the more lights and VU meters the better!
I'll stick with what I have and I'll save some money in case I find a good deal for a 9090.

Personally if it's a good deal and you can swing it I'd pick it up. That way you can have two comparable amps and decide which 'house sound' you like better. I'm at the opposite end. I have a 9090db and love it but would be stoked to hear a similarly spec'd Yamaha, Pioneer, or Kenwood to see what direction to take (had a Marantz for years, loved it but time to try out other things). Good chance I would have the 9090db confirmed as the sound I like best but how do we know if we don't try? Plus if the $ is tied up in the 6060 you won't spend it. Then you can sell both to fund an upgrade.
 
For the record I prefer the sound of Sansui over Marantz. Some people desribe a mid-bass 'bloom'. I felt it had a bit of a 'twang' where bass meets mid. Still an awesome sound but the sui seems smoother.
 
Hi, l have owned both of those and they sound very different to each other, the Yamaha sounds crisp and detailed with a more forward presentation as previously mentioned, but it also lacks bottom end and any hint of warmth in my opinion. The Sansui has a fuller and richer sound to it. As ScottFan355 said it all depends on your personal taste.
 
I would say that price is a bit high but if it's in minty condition not totally unreasonable. Also I expect the price on those units to rise a bit over time as many people like the aesthetics. And even if you took a 40-60 euro hit on it when you get something with more power is that really so much for an education into the sound you prefer, not to mention getting to enjoy a new toy for a while?
