Can anyone give me a review on this TT? I found one for sale for $150 that has a new belt and has been tuned up and checked by a professional Audio repair shop in my area.... Is it worth the money?

PLEASE HELP!

Thanks for the manual, I will see if I can get it for cheaper... I love design but if the sound sucks, who cares about design...I new to this and Im learning as I go along.

Should be a nice turntable, does it come with an entry level cartridge at that price?

yes, comes with needle and cart... I negotiated it down to $125... Here comes the silly question of the year..Is the considered a " Audiophile" turntable?

Maybe at one point in time. I don't think it is even if it is a really good starter table. I don't even believe the turntables that I have are "audiophile" and they are well discussed on the forum.

it's a nice enough 'basic" table but for that kind of coin you ought to be able to find something a bit more upscale

Audiophile, Snaubiophile ... don't sweat it. That table looks perfectly fine for the money, especially in that cherry condition, tuned up and (hopefully) a new stylus.

We tend to get jaded around here and forget that the "scores" are random. Yes you could wait for something better & one day might come home with a better table at 1/2 the price but around here I could also sell turntables just like that every day for more. As Mythless says, I also have better tables that are not "audiophile" either, but properly set up with a decent cartridge it really could be all someone who cares about sound would ever need.

I had that Yamaha for a while in my system. Put a decent cartridge on it and get it set-up correctly, and you will have a good performing TT. As others have mentioned, there are better performers out there, but, the Yamaha is a decent TT.

My $0.02.

I don't have much experience with *really nice* tables, but I did have one of these briefly and it was a fine table. I felt it was as good as the Technics SL-20 that I have, and that's pretty well regarded for what it is: a good quality, low muss and fuss table that can serve you well.
I sold my Yamaha-also in very, very nice condition-for $129 plus shipping on ebay. I'm pretty sure I sold that sans stylus.

No, not 'audiophile' but perfectly capable. What cartridge is in it?

As I tried to imply earlier, the price is perfectly OK if it's like new; clean, new belt, tight bearings at the arm pivots, and no play in the spindle/shaft for the platter.

All things being equal, for that kind of $ I'd probably look at/for a Technics direct drive as an incrementally "better" entry-level deck, but the Yamaha is fine and undeniably good looking.

You need a Yamaha amp or receiver to go with it now, you know?! ;-)

for that price?? which one would you recommend?

I've seen, around here at least. (And certainly understand your location may/will drive a higher premium), Pioneer PL-514/16/18, Technics SL-D2/others for that kind of price

If that's a picture of the actual table it's certainly a clean copy and I see the anti-skate fishing weight appears to be on there

ETA: One thing I don't see in the picture is a cartridge. Is one included at the given price or are you going to have to buy one in addition to that?
If included what is it?

Thanks so much everyone!! I can honestly say that Im learning so much from this forum and thank God I haven't run into an "audio snobs" yet (I was warned).. Anyway,, after reading and reading and reading I have decided to let my ears do the talking (sorta speak).. Audiophile this and Audiophile that can get pretty crazy it seems and not to mention super expensive!!

I'll be using a Marantz 2220B receiver with some Cambridge Model Six Speakers and that Yamaha YP-211 TT.... That will be entire setup!!

Any more advice, comments and or suggestions on this set-up will be greatly appreciated..

I think that sounds like a nice set-up. The Yamaha is really clean, I don't think you'll be disappointed. :thmbsp: I sold mine a few years back to jump to direct dirive TT's.

Yeah, you have - I am just being on good behavior ;-)

You are doing the right thing, I'd opine - keep both your mind and your ears as open as possible, and listen to lots of different music on lots of different equipment. That said, you do only have to satisfy your own ears - if one's goal is to put together a hifi system to impress other folks - well, that's a different hobby :-)

I cleaned one of these up, and it's a nice entry level table. The thing to look for is speed accuracy, as these CEC tables tend to be a little off. Also make sure that the rubber motor mount grommets are intact. If they are worn, you can pick up motor noise (hum) thru the plinth. I sold mine for $125 with a working cart/stylus.

Saw this turntable at a thrift shop for €40 but didn't get it. Should I go back? As someone who doesn't want to spend over €100 on a used turntable, is there a good chance I'll find anything better than this? I already have a Shure M97xE cartridge, so don't need to worry about that.

I'm mostly worried about speed accuracy. How would I even know it's running exactly 33 1/3 RPM?

I'm interested in learning the answer to that too!

BTW I love the way that TT looks!
