Yamaha YP-211 tracking issue

I snagged a very nice used Yamaha YP-211 tt recently with a Ortofon FF15 cart (tracking at 1.75 grams) that sounds very nice. The only issue is it seems to skip on the last LP track several times yet does not feel resistive when I move the tone arm back and forth (the same LP's play thru fine on my other TT's). I've also played with the anti skate weight at 1.5 and 2.0g settings, even removed the weight line from the support arm to see if that made a difference. The tone arm assembly is secure, properly balanced and the cartridge aligned per specs and my tt protractor.

Any suggestion on what might be causing this issue? Thanks so much for your time, always appreciate the knowledge from this forum!

Do you have a test LP to evaluate your cartridge tracking? I would be interesting to have a common source; may give you some extra data & a trouble-shooting tool.
That said, this table/cart appears to track less than your other options.

Google & your post tell me high compliance used spherical + medium mass? arm @ 1.75-2g skips.
Couple options
- VTF 1 to 3 grams w/2 recommended by OEM. You may need to run 2+.
- Any thoughts on the condition of your stylus? got a microscope?

Even if this was the prior owner setup, I am not a big fan of the cart or the TT/cart match. I would try a couple of things, if no luck, then swap it out with something else.
Good luck with your project!

Excellent thoughts, I did try it at 2+ grams and it helped a bit but still skipped. I have other TT's and could try the Ortofon FF14 setup to see it it's a problematic with them. I have a classic Shure M91ed with a fairly new replacement Jico stylus I can pop on to test. Will respond after I do some tests.

Thanks!

After pulling a universal head shell off of another tt with a Shure M91ED cart and fairly new Jico replacement stylus, I balanced the tonearm properly, tracked it at 1.75 g and gave it a whirl. Definitely worked/tracked better and did not skip on the record tracks but when it gets to the runoff section beyond the last track it mostly returns and occasionally it just skips in the runoff section and I need to lift it to start the return (it's a semi auto tt).

So some improvement but something in the auto return mechanism causing this problem, I believe.
