Yamaha YP-701

Hello! I just wanted to share some pictures from my Yamaha YP-701. It's a unique turntable and sounds great. I have replaced the belt with a new one, new stylus for the Stanton 500 cartridge, found a new anti-skate weight that had been lost (the one hanging on the fishing line), did some pretty careful cleaning and now shines again like a star. I'm missing the dustcover hinges, can't find them anywhere. Hope to be lucky soon and find something in the net. If anyone knows about the hinges, that would be great. Thanks.

Looks beautiful! I have a YP-511, but that's quite a different machine.

Any reason why you're using a Stanton 500? You should be able to get a better sound out of it with an alternative cartridge with elliptical (or more elaborate) stylus.

Hi! This cartridge was there at the first place. I haven't bothered to change it. Actually, I'm really happy with the sound. 511 is great also!

Yes, when I got my Technics SL1200, it came with the Stanton 500 and I briefly tried it. I found it very listenable and entertaining, if a little crude. It certainly has a full sound, which I suppose is one reason why it's popular with DJs.

The YP701 is a wonderful turntable and is virtually trouble free and requires little maintenance other than a little oiling every year or so, if memory serves. Mine has been in my family since it was new in the mid-seventies. Being a fairly uncommon table replacement hinges won't be easy to find but parts for this machine do surface from time to time.
