If you can stomach the BS, go get it.

Be prepared to do the Service Bulletin mods.

"The best stereo receiver that Yamaha ever built! This stereo is for audio files that remember the days when great stereos had oversized power supplies, hunkin stereo output transistors and state-of-the-art tuners, enclosed in a beautiful wood cabinet. Includes pre-amp for moving-coil cartridges."

Yeah, the ad is a grammatical train wreck with a hint of BS, but if the unit is in great condition at $150..then...? If some guy is telling me all that stuff and I know what I'm buying, I just tune him out or filter and correct him nicely if I feel like it and could get away with it.
I had the service bulletin mods done on mine as I couldn't do it myself. (Also could not figure out how to get the damn board out). I only ran me about $40to have that done and the tech upgraded everything on it as well. So I thought that was pretty good to now have a worry-free unit. Had I been able to do it myself I imagine it would have been about $10 or less not counting time.

Not a bad price, but the 2040 is better, and simpler. But of course it's not on CL for $150.

Not true.

The CR-1040 and below use STK pre-drivers that are NLA, but reproducible.

Who Reproduces them? I have not heard they were available. I know Merrylander is getting closer to a reproduction, but I thought they were Unobtainium.
Regards,
Jim

I didn't imply anyone was reproducing them for sale. I said they were reproducible. Using Rob's design and PCB traces you can make them or have them fabbed.
