Yaqin CD2 buffer, OK to use 1 side/tube?

I've got both versions of the Yaqin Tube buffer, the "1 tube" and "2 tube" versions.
BTW, my favorite combo so far is the 1-tube version with NOS Telefunken PCC88. I just took delivery of a NOS Tele PCC189 and it seems to have the same characteristics. Lovely tube sound when run between my Acer Aspire One and Creative Gigaworks T40 II speakers on my lil' office tunage system.

Anyway, with the two tube version I want to try using it on a sub woofer preamp output before the dedicated sub amp. As the sub out is mono only and therefore I'd only need to use one side of the CD2 tube buffer, would it be OK to pull one of the two tubes out and run it with only one tube?

This would be to conserve tubes obviously.

Thanks

I don't know about the effectiveness of the buffer on the sub woofer but I would not pull the second tube. Instead I would put a shorting plug in the input of the unused channel to eliminate noise in it. Some devices wire the heaters in series, which would stop the buffer from working at all and removing one of the tubes might affect the voltages on the remaining tube.

Let us know how you like or don't like the buffer in the sub woofer channel.

Thank you for your opinion.

Sorry, didn't mean to sound so harsh. But all things considered the sub pre out has got to be one of the lowest fidelity sources ever.

Additionally, at best, most subwoofer plate amps are adequate amps for their intended purpose. They generally are not full bandwidth amps and don't cover the full audio spectrum of 20hz - 20Khz. More specifically, they don't operate in the range where a tube buffer would be useful in improving the quality.

A tube buffer in the subwoofer chain may very well be the definition of polishing a turd.

Just my opinion. YMMV.

I've read stuff from people using these on their subs and liking the results. I will have to hear for myself.

re:pulling one tube,
A shorting plug would be the best bet I suppose.
