Very old but relevant seen the fact I got two yaqin amplifiers.
The mc-13s with el34b which is a push pull class a/b And the mc100b later version (recognizable by the fused left and right channel)
There is most def a difference SONICALLY between transistor and tube amps, that blanket statement "tubes make no difference at all" is nothing but a blanket statement.
That being said, I am anything but impressed with the 100b. The mc13s walks right over that amplifier not even trying. It's a major difference with my el34. Which sounds way more transparent, and open than even my Jadis orchestra reference el34 I had in the past. I had also a Dynaco st80 made by panor. Basically the st70 on steroids and way better build than the st70.
The yaqin mc13s still managed to match them without any doubt. So that whole automatic stance of vintage is better is also inherently false and yet another blanket statement.
It still doesn't take away that the yaqin 100b, even after tube rolling , and following up with a number of tube guys suggestions. That it's by far the worst sounding tube I own. The kt88 might be partially to blame there too, I don't care for the bloatinnes on the low end they produce at all. The upper end is veiled as can be. Super rolled off ,even after replacing a number of tubes .
I am lucky I got this amplifier for free, because I see it windup on eBay for a Christmas special price.
Again old post , but thought it to be relevant to react as I have two yaqins. The mc13s is the one to go for if you ask me. Incredibly well build and sounds absolutely gorgeous.
