New Yaqin MS-22B phono stage has replaced my Luxman C-120A-which had been relegated to only phono stage duty. The phono section DID need attention as it was quite noisy with no TT hooked up:thumbsdn:. First impression..... 1.Dead quiet 2. Sounds as good as the Lux right out of the box. Sound stage is getting bigger it seems by the hour:thmbsp:. Very impressed with it at this point. Can't wait to roll the T J Full Music tubes in. :D

congrats on the new stage, IMO Phono Stages are by far the single most important
component in the analog chain.

I would advise you to proceed with caution on the tube rolling as that is one area
where hype, BS, and avarice truly rule save your money.

Thanks! Also thanks for the heads up. I had planned on spending a bit more on some quality tubes. To fit the budget it was a tough decision to say the least! Lot's of choice and opinion out there!

As a group us audiophiles are the most anally retentive validation challenged bunch of perfectionist weenies on this planet, so much of this involves brilliant exploitative marketing strategies, the more they jack up the price the better it must be, most then justify the expenditure by believing whatever it is sounds great, the money you spend on a quality stage is invariably money well spent, but the tubes, wires and cables thing is almost always a scam, double blind testing is an anathema to the predators in the industry and the ego's of the audiophools that got hosed up de butt buying into the BS ;-)

What, so you don't think audiophile power fuses make the sound way brighter, more revealing and bla bla bla????:D At $40 a pop they've got to be miracle workers to your audio equipment!!!!:thumbsdn:

Congrats..I'd be interested in hearing your impressions as you spend some time with it, even if you roll some tubes in there, or not (don't want to get into that as this thread is about your preamp).

Moderators Note:

Folks, this is a thread about this members new phono stage, not another opportunity to enter into the endless debate over Tweaks: Money well spent or wasted? Keep it on topic, or watch your posts magically disappear.

Awesome, I had one of the Yaqin tube phono stages and loved it!!! Tube rolling will indeed offer you some excellent tonal differences...:thmbsp:

Regarding the comment made by fredj....never mind him, people like that only want to suck the life and fun out of this wonderful hobby.

What are the differences with the MS-12B?
Is it new, improved or completely different designs?

Price difference isn't that great but I'm considering trying one of these...:smoke:

Audiophool power fuses undoubtedly unleash all those latent subtle nuances:banana:

Now back to our regularly scheduled programing...:scratch2:
Keep us posted on your new Phono Stage as it gets more time on it, and if you do some tube rolling let us know your thoughts! Enjoy your new Phono Stage!

Very nice....would you mind posting a few pics for us, and keep us updated as the sound of your new phono stage evolves in time?

I have the 12B, Yaqin makes some nice gear IMHO. With NOS JAN tubes I did see a distinct improvement for less than $20 ea. I think the stock tubes are just cheap chinese ones.

Ms-12B is more than just a phono stage, it's got another set of inputs (and another set of tubes) for CD/Tuner etc.

Cheers,
Bob

I've already got a Tube DAC-09 which has extra inputs. So I just needed the phono. I did a lot of research. Was looking into a SS phono stage in the $200-300 range(boy does that open a whole other can of worms). I have been wanting to try some tube gear for a while, just wasn't able to put down a lot of dough. This pre amp alowed me the extra room in the budget for playing around a bit. I'm really interested in maybe a tubed integrated in the future too, if this works out. Which it seems to be, so far. I'll will get some photos up soon. Thanks for the interest e1!

I have three pieces of Yaqin gear, all good stuff including the Yaqin MS-11B phono stage. It coincidentally replaced a Lux R-1050 that did temporary duty as a phono pre. I also own a C-120a which is out of service as the years have not been kind to it capacitors. Luxman makes excellent phono pre's and it would be interesting to compare the Yaqin's with the Luxman's in like new condition, I think they would stand up nicely.

The Yaqin MS-22B looks like a fine unit, I would guess the tubes are Shuguang 12AX7's. Shuguang makes some very nice tubes but their triple mica 12AX7's are not one of their better efforts. Some tube rolling could yield excellent results.

Sound stage seems to be getting better every time I listen:thmbsp: My only complaint as yet is the lack of a light show from the tubes:D That I can live with for now....:music: One day I will look into the C120, get it up to spec and do an A/B.
