I'd go with an AR, XA or XB with a Grado cart/stylus and you can have a nice plinth made for it.

Take a look at my avatar:D, but also check out the official AR owners thread.

What's your budget?

The Linn Lp 12 with an Akito arm plus Adikt cartridge is hard to beat. The plinth is sheer class, as is the sound, but they don't come cheap.

ok -

headshell/cart/stylus aside.....$300 budget

belt

wood plinth.

the most simple thing in the world.

i know i have seen tt's that have the motor and belt exposed...almost like a bicycle chain and wheel.

i love that you can see whats happening.

ok - thats a bit more information.....but you can always add more to my budget....one can always dream.

A Pioneer PL-41 would fit your needs nicely. Beautiful wood plinth. Very well built. The Denon dl110 is very nice on the Pioneer.

You might be able to find this one in your budget.

A very solid choice. However, at today's DL-110's prices, a AT95E cartridge would reduce the total price by over $200.

I'm partial to the Pioneer PL-51/71 line for wood bases. The 51 while not real wood looks pretty darn good, hard to tell the difference. The 71 is real wood. They are direct drive though.

I'd check out the new Teac TN-300 for a manual deck in cherry finish, considering buying one myself.
