Yikes! Loud Pop, Static With On/Off/Volume Knob

Was rotating in another vintage receiver this morning when the loud pop followed by 1-2 seconds of static startled me. The Sherwood 7225B receiver has the power on/off and volume control all on the same knob.

Is this common to other receivers or Sherwood only? Is the loud pop/static upon powering on a danger to speakers and how to correct it? Thanks.

Probably due to sitting so long and age. Might leave it plugged in without anything connected for a couple hours on and off for a day, see if it stabilizes.
Didn't take out a fuse which is good.

Try this, Billy Preston,

Next time you power it up, turn the speaker selector switch to NONE let the capacitors charge for a bit, while preventing DC current from flowing to your speakers causing that POP.

Try about a minute or so, then turn your speaker selector switch to engage your speakers. If that eliminates your POP, then your filter caps are aging/failing...

One of my receivers did that for a few days after pulling it out of storage then the pop went away, one another receiver, it remained until the caps were replaced.
