A few interesting videos on Youtube like this.

Yeah, yeah, I know. Running from the cops isn't a good idea but this guy takes it to a whole 'nuther level. It seems like the ASP has the license to chase people at extreme speeds and some people have what it takes to evade them. When the car you're chasing has the ability to hit 180+ mph by the time you hit 140 mph and has opened a 1/4 mile gap on you IMO it's time to break off the chase.

He is going to take it too far (like he hasn't already) and when they catch him it's going to be ugly. Whatever it takes to get yer kicks but dayum dood.

I've seen several of these videos. At a close look there is light coming from the front of the vehicle so my theory is he's using driving lights. Nobody can drive like that at those speeds flying blind and he's not doing it in traffic. Of equal concern should be the ASP troopers blasting along at chase speeds when they have no idea where the car they're chasing is. Many states don't permit high speed chases because even though one car traveling at high speeds like that isn't necessarily safe, two cars doing it is worse.

Being familiar with current electrical systems I know blacking out part of the lighting system takes some knowledge. Love to know how they accomplished that.

I know you can wire in some high power driving lights but with the other lights off you'd still need dash lights I guess.

I don't think we need high speed chases, and there are a few ideas out there for ending them. One is a nice GPS device fired from the police car that sticks, no need to follow to see where the car is, and the other is a tangle net that wraps around the rear wheels.

However, the real stupidity is any auto manufacturer making a production car that will go that fast. My old Audi Fox had a cutoff that shut off the fuel pump when you hit 104 mph, no reason not to have something in modern cars. No one NEEDS the ability to drive at 130mph plus on public highways.

Stupidity is building cars that People will buy?!? That Audi Fox probably wasn't safe above 104-105 mph. There are problems with speed arrestor devices or a patrol car fired GPS device tho'.

What I was referring to is Can Bus systems. They are sensitive to loads not being what is expected. And when that happens the weirdest things happen.

It can be done at the Signal Acquisition Module or whatever Chrysler calls it. CAN BUS operates a relay in the module so the signal becomes 12V power to the destination device. Interrupt would be easy enough to install on the 12V side. Whether that causes warning lights and other CAN BUS issues is something else.

Slippery slope when we decide what other people need. Of course public safety is important. They tried banning dope and we filled the jails with non violent kids. They tried banning Big Gulps. They’re working on internal combustion engines.
Freedom is obviously a dangerous state of being. Tough to strike a balance.

I understand it can be done but at what cost? Not enough time or room to debate this one so....
