Your Favorite 12AX7?

I agree with your #1 choice, the Telefunken smooth plates are my favorite. Followed by Mullards, Matsushita(very similar to the Mullard short grey plates, made on their equipment), RCA blackplates, Telefunken ribbed plates, Raytheon greyplates, Sylvania greyplates, and in the rear, Sovteks. I think that is about all of the 12AX7 I have tried.

Would be happy to have a lifetime supply of Telefunken smooth plates!

I like the tung-sol reissues nice tube and a good price. I don't even deal with NOS now that I can get these.

Keeping in mind that different tubes sound differently in different gear, my favorite 12AX7 is the Ei Gold pin. Perfect balance from top to bottom.

As I'm new to tube gear, and I certainly don't qualify as a tuner, but I like what I hear with the EH 12AX7 Gold Pins in my Primaluna. Once I get this system stabilized with some rebuilt Soliloquy 6.5 speakers, I look forward to trying the recommendations from these posts.

The Gold Pins were highly recommended by Emmanuel Go (First Sound) as the tube to start from.

Westinghouse long black plate 12AX7 with angled horseshoe shaped getter gets the vote - in my gear at least.

I think EI gold pins are made on the old Telefunken equipment. I think. Does anyone know for sure? I think it's Tele>National>EI.
