Overall I've never been a fan of live recording issues. I have a few that I really enjoy: Stan Kenton, Live at Redlands U, Lou Reed, Rock & Roll Animal and Stephen Stills 2 Sides Live. Curious what you folks have found that rates as superior sounds?

Just the first three to come to mind.
Like live albums especially if we saw the show the album is from.

The sound recording quality never really is a issue for me.

Probably my favorite is The Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl. It captures what a Beatles concert was all about.

Next would be any of the Rush live recordings. They were/are just so incredible.

For ones that I love the music on and have fantastic sound quality, I would say:
801 Live
Genesis - Seconds Out

For ones that are great even if the sound quality isn't quite amazing:
Jimi Hendrix - Band of Gypsies
Velvet Underground - Live 1969 (which I find to have the very best versions of their songs).

Others that I really dig are:
Steve Hillage - Live Herald
Gong - Live Etc
Be Bop Deluxe - Live in the Air Age
Jethro Tull - Bursting Out,
Donny Hathaway - Live,
Talking Heads - the Name of this Band (better I think than the more popular Stop Making Sense LP)

And... for V/A live albums, I can think of none greater than: URGH: A Music War

As some others have shared, not a big fan of "live" performance records, but for me there's a few "exceptions" like when,
"In Concert Deep Purple plays with the London Symphony Orchestra" (2000).

Liking both groups/genres, I found it unique and unusual wherein the two groups shared the same stage, offering a "meld" resulting in a great listening experience.

I was too slow, feeling that I shouldn't post without a pic, but now here it is.

Not that anyone else should care, but in my book this is the best pop music recording ever, not just the best live. From cover art, to songwriting, performance, production (*), pressing - it has it all. It's the one recording that would be a Desert Island item for me.

(*) Yeah, okay, so George cheated a bit on the "live" aspect. I can live with that.
