Your first one...

That S-7100 was my first receiver, too!I got it with a dual 1215(maybe?) tt at Recycled Stereo, the used branch of Pacific Stereo in North Hollywood. That powerhouse ran my first speakers-Infinity POS I's that my dad picked up from a guy at the factory in Chatsworth. The guy told my dad that POS was actually what you think it stood for, since it was in comparison with their big boys.
I miss the speakers and tt.Dont miss that receiver at all.
Jimmy

My first "good" stereo system consisted of the following:

Marantz 1060 integrated amplifier

Marantz Imperial 7 speakers

Dual 1229Q turntable

In my memory, that system was the best system that I ever had!

Don't let this fool ya fellas. The S-7100A is a fine sounding, and very well built little receiver. Way under the radar, still, and works well for smaller rooms and for background music.

Another plus is a fairly sensitive tuner and a decent phono section.

It may be crap to some, but to this Sherwood lover, it's a screaming bargain at the prices they can be purchased for.

YMMV. This model was my first SS receiver.

Of couse at the time, in college, it was all I could afford...

Wow, I'm right with you, Michael...

I had a Sherwood...S-7100A

This is what they looked like...

It was a piece of crap, actually...17 watts!

Bought in 1972.

Mine was the same piece of crap, might have been exactly the same receiver. Mine might have been the Sherwood S-7100A piece of crap,
minus one or two knobs. My technics with 80wpc was a substantial
upgrade.

Exactly. This was a one of the fine Sherwoods offered in the early 70's - a sleeper that if you match with some efficient speakers produces very warm and excellent sound. It's a bit lost among the many lower powered receivers of that era. It belongs in a thread about hidden gems.

Cheers. Snade

Wards Airline with built in TT,
then the inherited Magnavox console
Finally a Pioneer SX 650, thought I had died and gone to heaven.

my dad gave me a Kenwood he brought back from Vietnam and some pioneer speakers with a lattice type grill cover 15" woofers i believe they had a 99 in their model number when I went to college in '76. I was the party room. Everyone loved those speakers especially when I went on Christmas break. When I came back they were gone. But up till then I could rock the whole dorm floor. It was a nice system for back them, but I miss my dad more.

Oh, then mine must not have been the S-7100....
actually, now that you mention it, I never minded it until my neighbor fried it. then he disappeared, and when I tracked him down, refused to make good. Worked out fine, because it was a great excuse to upgrade.

A second hand Harman Kardon 330b receiver

mated to new (purchased in 1977) Advent 2002 or 3002 two-way, acoustic suspension speakers. Wish I could remember the right model number, but I can't...... No complaints about the HK, but don't miss it either. Still miss the speakers.

Just took a digital pic, so image isn't the greatest:

Taken in 1979:

CV speakers and Sansui 8080 w/AR TT, and yes, that's a real parrot on the right speaker
