you're giving it away free? it must be good! (speaker score!)

well, ok. not *it*, but them.

a set of crown es-212 electrostatic speakers, including the dual 10" woofer boxes, for free.:banana::banana:

i nearly fell over when i picked up the es boxes and saw the word "electrostatic" on the bottom, and made sure to run them to my truck before anyone else came to the "free stuff" party. then i come here and read they cost the same as a family sedan back in the day.

they're not in the *greatest* of shape, but with some refinishing of the cabinets and some new cloth on the grills (UGLY RED CLOTH ALERT) they might even have some sort of WAF.

i also scored a broken PE-3044 turntable and an adc sound shaper 2 graphic equalizer, also free.:thmbsp:

only one picture, sorry (from the ad). i had to hide them in my van before my wife saw them, or i'd be living in it down by the river. i guess i'd have great stereo, though :D

edit: some pictures from the audio circuit: http://www.audiocircuit.com/A-HTML/...UN-picture.php?c=CRK&m=ES-212&cc=941&Nummer=0

ES-212s, man that is a great pickup. I'd love to hear a set in good condition. That link showed me more about these speakers than I have seen before.

That is hard to believe!

There was a set of them on ebay recently that were new in the box!

I would have been interested, but they were in California and I am in NC. :sigh:

Where did you find these beauties? Your post doesn't tell us where you live.

Great score! :thmbsp:

... i had to hide them in my van before my wife saw them, or i'd be living in it down by the river.

So what is this prolific theme of hiding speakers or concealing new audio purchases from one's wife I keep reading all over the place? I think that is very funny and I can vividly imagine scenarios where someone's wife get's super pissed seeing yet another load of gear coming into the household!

I didn't realize it was such a widespread 'problem' amongst us AK'ers.

I'm thankful that my wife doesn't express any angst toward my audio finds.

:D

They were in the bay area, CA. On CL. I posted in the D and S forum, look what I missed.

you want to know what was hard to believe? that they were still there when i got there (though i was there within half an hour of the email saying "come between 10 and 3", and they happened to be within about 1/4 mile of my house, as the crow flies [on the other side of a ridge]).

i live just outside the limits of felton, ca, six miles from santa cruz. these were also in "the county", like me between felton and ben lomond.

i saw those nib ones...nice, but $2K nice?

Great score! :thmbsp:

yep, she's NOT happy with the fisher mono phonograph in the living room ("it's going in the, uh, garage this weekend, dear"), the ar-2ax speakers that are driven by the sa-7100 in the living room (she does like the sound, not the look), or the sansui 9090 in the spare room. she does like the little ar-4x's in the spare room.

her imagination told her we were going to get a bose sound dock for the ipod and that was it. i told her that was fine, if that's what she wanted, but that wasn't going to be it. we still don't have the sound dock :) if i can scrounge a nice set of smaller infinities, or other small, high WAF speakers to replace the 2ax's in the LR, i think that might buy me some good grace...but then they'll move to the 9090 in the spare room, and the 4x's to my son's room when i find an amp to run them.

so, the crowns go into the van until i figure out how to get them "in house" without raising her ire. maybe if we had another 500 sf or so, and more rooms to "hide" things in plain sight.

Just get some life-size posters of Brad Pitt to put in front of ugly speakers.

Prolly work.

;)

Matt

maybe use some sort of sound-sensitive membrane of different thicknesses that changes pictures dependent on the volume of the speaker...

then we could have angelina on there, too :)
