Any one of the You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore discs would be great since they are live recordings covering many of his styles and phases. I really like You Are what You Is and The Best Band You Never Heard In Your Life. My all time favorite is Bongo Fury. Of course you could start at the beginning with Freak Out from June of 1966 (parts recorded in 1965).

The Zappa Family Trust operates a web site where they stream FZ (and a little Dweezil) 24/7. It's a good and free) way to hear a wide range of Zappa's material. As I get older I'm drawn more to his orchestral stuff. "Yellow Shark" is amazing.

Quintessetial Zappa songs: Camarillo Brillo, Dynamo Hum, Montana , I'm the Slime, Disco Boy, Hot and Nasty. Zappa's best can be found on "Strictly Commercial". Some of his more "commercial" songs, but I really dont think Frank would mind you digging them.

Were you thinking of 200 Motels? I always thought of that more as a soundtrack.
