Zenith Allegro console

I recently acquired a Zenith Allegro console at my local Goodwill. It's in beautiful condition; the tuner works great and all the controls seem to as well. The turntable and 8 track deck don't operate at all, but I'm fairly certain nothing is seriously wrong with them. Problem is, I can't find a model or serial number anywhere on it, inside or out. I took the back off and saw nothing inside. I suspect it was on a sticker that has come off. Any help would be greatly appreciated.20240303_124254.jpg20240307_160012.jpg20240303_124248.jpg

You might try looking at old Zenith catalogs from the early to mid 70’s. You’ll likely find the cabinet design, which will hopefully lead you to a model number, etc. I’m sure you can find catalogs on the web for this era, old newspaper and magazine ads might also be a decent source for this too. I worked in an appliance store as a youngster, that sold Zenith consoles of this era - brings back good memories! Wood tops and fiberglass/molded plastic front panels. They all had them! The all white, modern 70’s space age designs were my favorites. They made matching console TVs as well. Zenith made some decent gear back in the mass produced big console day.

This looks like an “internal component“ match. They used many cabinet designs with the same internals to appeal to the consumer’s design element. This might get you started…

Thanks! Speaker grills aside, it definitely looks almost identical to mine

Welcome to Audio Karma ! As far as the turntable is concerned, most here would concur that it probably needs a light service as it looks like it was taken care of. Most of the mechanicals are likely gummed up with old grease that becomes cementitious over decades. Clean it off good, relube and it'll probably be good.

As far as the 8-track player goes, I’d check to see if it has/had a drive belt. If it did, it likely has disintegrated. Old belts also sometimes leave a sticky mess/residue that will need to be cleaned/removed. If you can’t find a stock replacement you might be able to measure both the width of the belt and the diameter, by using a piece of string and ordering a generic replacement off of the web. I hope you are able to get your new beauty singing like she was day-one new! Good luck!

There is a console available near me that appears to be the same as this one. Anybody know what speakers (drivers) are in it? Woofer size, tweeters, horns?
Thanks!

Thanks for the reply, but a ported cabinet in a console? Or do you mean that's how the speaker enclosure is constructed in the console?
