I picked up this tube console, i was about to variac DBT it , for the life of me I can't find a switch to turn it on!?! I tried the turntable thinking that might do it, but no luck. I know I will eventually have to pull the pre-amp and amp out to recap it, but i was hoping just to get an idea as to if it actually worked. Advice as to where the power switch is folks? Thanks

IIRC the off on switch is on one of the tone or volume pot. It's a pull push IIRC.

The push/pull is the stereo/mono. On the tuner it does have a phono/am/fm/off switch, just seems strange that I can't get the record changer or anything else to function. I so wish there was something that would respond before I dive in and start pulling out components. Advice folks?

Pics?

The "phono/am/fm/off switch" is the power switch.

Usually when in the phono position, the receiver is off until you turn on the on/off/rej switch on the turntable.

The receiver should turn on when in the AM or FM position. If it doesn't, grab that trusty volt/ohm meter and do some troubleshooting. See if there is 120 VAC coming into it. Going to the switch? coming from the switch? Going into the power transformer? Coming out of the power transformer. Is there even a power transformer in this unit? Series string chassis? Any fuses?

Ok, if the phono/am/fm/off switch is the power switch I guess I will need to dive in to start checking it out. I was hoping to get a works/doesn't works diagnosis on it before I started dinkin with it. Thanks!

Hard to armchair diagnose but if it's any consolation, I am in the PNW about an hour south of Olympia. There are other AK'ers in the Seattle area so wait and see if anyone replies that might be closer to you.
