Zenith MT1960

I have a broken Zenith MT1960 console with turntable, and am/fm stereo. It has a 3L02 and a 7L01 chassis. It just hums louder and louder the longer it is on. I can't find alot of info on this model. I read try changing the caps. It has a big paper cap with 3 different values. 300uf-200v, 300uf-150v, 60uf-150volts. Is changing these a good place to start? If soo i can't find caps with those values. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Replace both power supply condensers each has two or three taps of different values, just replace them, and also paper/wax types, this will solve your hum problem.

Just FYI 'condensers' is another word for 'caps'. You can replace a cap with a particular capacitance with another cap of the same capacitance but a higher voltage rating, or with a cap of greater capacitance (within reason). Bear in mind that caps are usually +/- 20% tolerance anyway.

Multi-valued caps are hard-to-impossible to find, but can be replaced with however-many discrete single-valued caps.

Be sure all the caps are discharged before you work on them: there are some pretty serious (like, 'potentially lethal') voltages stored in some of them.

Ok Will do Thanks I just gotta find those caps. The lower uf caps seem more in stock online.
