Zilch's AK Design Collaborative - Econowave Speaker

A couple of horn clones, the XT1086, ELX112, and JBL 6X12 and probably many more are available on Aliexpress,
but I've been a bit nervous about buying there. I recently found this and will be placing the order soon:
I should also add that several here have ordered them and I've not seen reports of problems.

MTG-90 sells on eBay.

He has a store there. He sells a pair of ELX112 knockoffs for $45.00. He also sells a pair of "knockoff" B&C de160 drivers ( to go with them ) for $80.00.

These are great values. No need to wait weeks, or even longer to have similar items show up from China.

:)

I'm not familiar with the DE160, any econowave designs with them? I think that MTG used them
in several of his designs. If they're good, why isn't there more talk about them here? I notice that
they're bolt on and the standard JBL 6x12 is screw on but there are many good if not more bolt ons.

Anyone interested in those products, should simply ask Matt why they're such a good deal ( and how to best use them ).

Edit: My mistake, apparently the Denovo dna-325 is a clone of the B&C de180 driver ( this clone was used by DIYSG in their HTM line before they switched to using Celestion drivers ).

My advice still stands, anyone interested in using them should talk talk with Matt G about the drivers & waveguide combo on eBay ( he can most likely provide meaningful measurements > of the mentioned combo>> which will help with crossover design ).

I bought a pair of WG112 (ELX112 clone) from MTG-90 on ebay. The pair shipped came to $74 and I don't mind
supporting MTG but they're probably cheaper on AliExpress.
They were smaller than I pictured them, I should have looked at the spec, they're 12" wide like the standard JBL
6x12 but they have a wider pattern in the vertical which is a good thing. I will give them a listen someday.

The big QSC/B52 is 14" wide, so a bit bigger.

The WG112 is bolt on format in contrast to the JBL 6x12, I don't have many bolt on drivers.

I think you'll find it's cheaper ( & likely faster ) to buy direct from aliexpress ( China ) if what you're after is just a pair those ELX112 horns.

There, the Cdn $$ price for a single ELX112 knockoff is @ $25.00 Cdn a piece, along with @ $10.00 Cdn shipping.
- The exchange rate for Canadian and Australian dollars is effectively at parity, so I would think your price would be the same.

Thoughts on using the SBA Audience 12" OB woofer in a 48 litre box with the CD and horn sitting on top?
I scored a pair early on this year and i can't think of anything else to do with them and I have a spare box sitting here

Some inspiration perhaps...

Very different T/S parametres.
I've got those drivers but as the bass in a big 4-way
If it's the BIANCO-12OB150-01, that thing has a QTS of .63

I do get Mazza's recommendation of looking at another SBA product from the OB line to look at results of placing a speaker designed for OB use in an enclosure.
You will run against some of the same traits and logical choices, but of course dimension will need to be different and the exact measurements that Joseph took will not apply.

It will not work well in a 48 liter box, if might work if you remove the back of the cabinet and optionally experiment extending the side walls beyond the front baffle to create and H frame. 48 liters is not enough volume for a speaker with a QTS that high.

I actually used Jeff Bagbys box program to work out the box volume, bigger would be better but crossed at 120 It simmed OK. But only above 100Hz would it work, which is OK because that is usually where I set the cross. No harm in trying
