Zu speakers, listening imnpressions

I moderated my first 4 replies, Ray. I almost banned myself.

You should give yourself a "time Out" for what you said about the Zoo speakers! OK, time's up, Welcome back Dave:yes:

I just couldn't believe that a speaker that looked as nice as the Zoo's could sound that bad....Until I heard them. Ickky!

Zu speakers are not for everyone including me but they do have a strong following, thats what makes all this great. How boring would it be if it was a one size fits all hobby? I have heard them several times and to me they sound like a pro speaker which I dont care for plus they seem to collapse when cranked.

:thmbsp:

Quite likely there is a system or two or three using these that would rock my world based on the gear, the room, & the music selected.

How does Zu ship their speakers? Do they spend time in the air at all? I have definitely seen tweeters (using ferrofluid) go crazy after they spent time in high-altitude / un-pressurized cargo holds.

you would think this would give them a more "airy" sound ;)

sorry I had to lol

This is one reason I became sick of so called "high-end". Give me Vandersteens, Klipsh and even old Avids over this.

That response looks a lot like my 1969 Bose 901's without the equalizer in-circuit -- including off-axis! How much are they asking for this abomination? Was the speaker broken when it was tested or is this the typical response?

i dont know what the asking price was. i got to hear two sets on different gear, could only stand 5 minutes at a time. i was wondering why they were auditioning Zu speakers at a headphone meet. maybe because speaker guys have no interest in them?

Everybody is so negative here. I'm personally glad that the Zu speakers exist as they provide one more reason why building your own speakers is a good idea.

In fact, it should be required that at all future diy speaker meets, that the sponsors have a pair hooked up, if for no other reason than to raise the newbie's self esteem!

As can be plainly seen, they definitely do have a place in the audio world.

Apparently the only range the Zus excel at is the firing range. :) Could make a good photoshop image and perhaps pick me up for dnewman. :)
