The red arrow shows the attachment. I have the last of the Japanese-made 1200 MkII, if that makes a difference in what is packaged with the units today.

You can always purchase a separate Technics/Panasonic auxiliary weight. Cheaper ones are available on eBay. But, I would go with the OEM Technics ones.

We all know they're built like tanks, 30+ years old and mine looks and performs as-new. I've not done lighting mods, no fluid damper, nuthin. Just spindle oil.

From 2011 onwards, Technics closed its Osaka plant. The turntables are now made in Malaysia. From what I know, 2021 and onward, this included their entire high-end line (Grand Class, Master Edition, and Reference Class).

yes, Agree. back in the day I bought a new 1200 mk2 in late 2010 from KAB. It was one of the last copies he had at the time. KAB installed all of his upgrades into the
table before shipping it. Used that table daily for many years.

The earliest 1000Rs were built in Japan but now they all come out of Malaysia along with all the other models in the new line up.

I've never seen a lick of evidence of that being the case. "Original" Technics confirmed in Nov 2010 that they had ceased production of all analog equipment that autumn. I had a made in Japan SL-1200MK2-A-XA that was manufactured June 2010. Autumn begins in September.

"Revival" Technics launched the GAE in 2016, and moved production from Utsunomiya, Japan to Malaysia effective Aril 1, 2021. Several Technics products were already being made in Malaysia.
 
For those of us that prefer a Shibata stylus but using a protractor to align the cantilever can be a p.i.a.
I use a Ortfron 2M Black Shibata MM in a Technics head shell and use a azimuth gauge block to sight in the the tone arm being level. My arthritis in my hands is a problem now aligning the cantilever. So I purchased a Ortfron Concord Music cart with 250 Anniversary LVB boron cantilever Shibata stylus. It's built for the SL 1200 MK II tone arm. No protractor needed, off set is built in, level the tone arm adjust tracking . Ortfron also makes several other plug in stylus. I'm trying the OM40 from KABUSA it has a Fritz Gyger design diamond stylus .
