And yes, I agree that speaker wires should never get warm. I was making a point. I just don't understand why some folks need super heavy cables to drive speakers. There is not that much power going through them. It doesn't hurt but it doesn't help either.

No. I don't use AC cords unsuitable for heavy loads. However I believe the NYC Fire Dept when they attribute a disaster to an AC cord that started a fire that burned down a house & resulted in loss of life. It's quite common, particularly in winter when space heaters cause fires because landlords don't provide sufficient heat. That's only 1 example.

I have never found speaker wire get warm, not even 18Ga when driven by Phase Linear 300s. Do I believe it's possible for an uber macho arc welder amp to cause that problem when welding with undersize cable? Yes. Thank God some audiophiles, who can't solder, don't weld.

I can’t remember how I solved this but I did eventually add a second MC2205 and had cables re terminated with smaller spades I guess, because I have them on there now. Can’t remember ten years ago what exactly I did. But I haven’t had any issues since.
