A "Karma Initiative"...'Stormy Monday'

Wow those are big files. I have seen an I.C. band on youtube playing some Zeppelin and they were great. I can't wait to hear what you guys put together even if it takes a few tries to tighten up.

Just for fun, I've uploaded a "Progress" mp3- it's a ~6 minute tune, with about a minute each from 6 of our quick mixes along the way. Looks like we're happy enough with the takes we have so far, now it's just down to final tweaks & it'll be posted for all to hear (and raw tracks made available for others to re-mix if desired).

For example, you'll hear the old trombone from the guide track transition to Tanya's harp at ~1:07 (sadly missing from the final mix, we'll have to have her play on another track in the future), you'll hear the drums transition from Mike's 1st take ride to the 2nd take's hi-hat at ~2:00, from harp to B3Nut's Hammond at ~3:02, older drum take to newer drums + tambourine at ~4:12, and finally moving from KevZep's biting Telecaster to his greezy Les Paul at ~4:45. Bob's bass and Tanya's vocal also change along the way, but that's tougher to hear.

Excellent job folks...really enjoyable. Some good talent out there in AK world.

Really too bad about not having that trombone track. Though I really don't have an affection for trombones, thought that 'artifact' at the beginning was exceptional. Need to get it back in the mix....

Only read the first and last pages of the thread so may have missed the technique for recording this.....but did y'all consider using a click track? Perhaps on the next project to help tighten-up the sync'ing.

Going back for another listen.....
 
we dropped the trombone track because it wasn't done by an AK member. It was from the practice track. Yes, we will be using a click track next time! We'll be putting out the completed all AK member track soon. Thanks for listening!

Mike pretty much answered, but we used a live version of the tune as a guide track, partly 'cause I thought it'd be easier to learn the tune & follow along if we had existing multi-tracks that could be used to selectively monitor with. Click track would also help, and will be used in the future.

If anybody's seriously interested in taking a swing at re-mixing this tune, I have prepped some of the multi-track originals to make that easy (all the same length in time, all the same file format/bitrate, all the same peak levels, etc.)...it's just a LARGE zip file (~500MB), so we may only be able to host it for a limited time. Let me know if there's anyone interested.

Also, if there are any questions about the process, feel free to ask away. Critiques are welcome, as well, as long they're presented in the spirit of AK's "All audio, no attitude".

I keep getting a ripped in half picture of a Quicktime file when I use the link. Problem on my end, I 'spose. I'm on Firefox 3.5.10.
