Suspect b/c of the thumbwheel tuning it was made by JVC. Marantz held the patent and when JVC started using it in their receivers, Marantz and JVC duked it out in court. JVC ended paying a royalty for a license. Doubt Marantz would have voluntarily allowed any other company to use it since it went to the branding of Marantz.

This was a canadian model, which could cause differences with the design rights and stuff. It was imported by AGS, it was also sold as Audio Reflex and also came in black.

Is there a three number prefix to that model number. It might look like xxx.xxxxx. The first 3 digits may be a code for the manufacture. I know Sears did this for a lot of there power tools and appliance. Here is one list of manufactures by model number prefix: http://www2.edgeta.org/sears.htm

Interesting to see Marantz on the list. Maybe my thoughts were right but conclusion went the wrong way. Possibly Marantz produced or contract. Could it be that somewhere out there is a model 2600 receiver with a SEARS logo?

I see that Pioneer and Hitachi are on that list as well as Marantz , Phil H , I will check the model no. again , Thanks , Gary .

Phil H , the Model no. does not have any preceeding digits befoe it , a sticker on the back says made in Japan .
