I've done enough update to the system to throw my old thread out-of-whack. So I'm starting up another. Some of these are old picture of stuff still as it is. But I want to get more/new/better pictures in this thread in the near future. But for now....

Hi there.

You can see what I'm listening to through this here.

What you're looking at here.(from left to right)

The CD player is a Rotel RCD-991ae.
APC H-15 power conditioner.
The amplification is a Shanling A3000 dual mono beast
Well Tempered Record Player mounted with an Audio Technica ATOC9MLii hooked up to a slightly modified Jolida JD9 phono amp.
It's all hooked up between a pair of Focal Chorus 807Ws

Oh, and my headphones are Grado 325 (non-"i"s)

This is my primary turntable. It's a late-80's vintage Well Tempered Record Player.

The Well Tempered tonearm hangs by fishing line in a pot of silicone.

The AT-OC9 MLII

The motor runs with a twist in the belt to disrupt the plane of frequencies traveling along the belt so they don't reach the platter.

Here's my current secondary 'table; a Rek-O-Kut Rondine JR L-37 (33 and 78rpm). It's playing through a Musical Fidelity VLPS (mkI) phono amp.

I rebuilt the platter/drive system and bought the ROK S-120 arm separately. The plinth was supposed to be a rought working plinth, but I ran out of stema before building a nice Baltic Birch one. This weighs an even 50 pound.

Project thread with plenty of photos and sound samples along the way here:

I ran it for a while with a Denon DL-103 (through a Musical Fidelity VLPS phono amp. But I hated it! Hay-TED-IT!

Here it is playing with the Pio arm and AT-111 cartridge.

Here's a more current picture of the room showing the second 'table placed between the chair and the couch.

Now that looks like a place to come home to, shut out the rest of the world and just disappear! Wonderful set up and great decor gives such a good ambience.

I too wonder how you like the Vienna speakers as when I move back to Europe they are something I am very interested in for my future home set up.

Thanks guys. No, I didn't like the Viennas at all. Initially quite captivating, but after a time, proved to be rather boring and lacking dynamics.

That said, they excel at quiet/acoustic music like Neil Young or a Mendelssohn string quartet. But anything bigger/brighter gets the life squeezed out of it.

Nice Brett! congrats once again on the Focals. Are those the stands you built? if not what stands are they? they sorta look like the matching Focal stands?

Fantastic system, as usual, Brett. Very nice combinations. I love the rest of the room too.

You have quite the collection of speakers . Very nice set-up Brett .

Thanks. The white "ice cream sandwiches" were on loan. I sold the B&Ws to buy the Viennas and will sell the Viennas to offset the cost of the Focals. I still have the Bose, the KLHs and of course the new Focal 807Ws. The Viennas are sitting in the foyer on their way out and the B&Ws went to a really nice young guy up in NH.
